Today I gave a presentation on social media to the fantastic people at the UK’s preeminent healthcare think tank, the King’s Fund.
I gave a wide ranging presentation that discussed current trends in social media, case studies of our work and my slight obsession with the impact future technologies will have on this space. I’m pleased to report that it seemed to be well received and there were plenty of very insightful questions at the end.

The coalition Government announced 24 Bills in its first Queen’s Speech – which had ‘freedom, fairness and responsibility’ as its central message. It was a high number, but this Parliament is due to run for 18 months and will also sit in September (providing it wins a vote on this). The Queen said that her Government’s first priority would be to ‘reduce the deficit and restore economic growth’.

So, with its launch of the new look website today, The Times has taken the first bold step towards what will become the first UK newspaper to move toward a paywall model of delivering its product (The FT has always operated under a limited content model). Other News Corporation titles, owned by Rupert Murdoch, from around the world will be taking similar steps in future months. This comes rapidly on the back of the recent announcement of job losses at the office of The Times and Sunday Times in a bid to reduce losses that have been estimated to be up to a quarter of a million pounds every day.

The Speaker has written to the party leaders to communicate the proportion of Chairs of Select Committees to be elected to the party leaders.
Reflecting the fact that the Conservative Party does not have a majority (with only 306 seats), and that Labour has 258 seats, the Tories have been given just less than half of the Committees – with the rest being split between Labour and the Liberal Democrats in proportion to the composition of the House.
